ABOUT THE SESSION:

This session will explore how innovative insurance solutions are helping to de-risk ecological restoration projects and make financing more attractive, enabling investment. The panel will bring together perspectives from insurers, brokers and project stakeholders, illustrating how these solutions are applied in practice and how they support the scaling of financing for ecological restoration projects.

The session will conclude with an opportunity for audience Q&A.

Claire McDONALD - CEO SCOR Business Solutions
Claire McDonald is CEO of Scor Business Solutions, the global corporate insurance division of Scor and is a member of the Comex of Scor Group. Prior to joining Scor in 2024, Claire was Board member and CUO at HDI Global responsible for Property, Engineering and Marine  (appointed January 2022) having been responsible on joining HDI for UK & Ireland. Before this she spent over 30 years with Allianz in a mixture of underwriting and operations leadership roles, with final role as Global Head of Operations and Global Practice Leader, Allianz Multinational. Claire is Vice President of the Insurance Institute of London and Junior warden of the Worshipful Company of Insurers (WCI).

Mike GOSSELIN - CUO UK and Lloyd's, AXA XL 
Mike Gosselin is the Executive Director & Chief Underwriting Officer for AXA XL’s UK & Lloyd’s division, bringing over 30 years of experience in underwriting and risk management. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and Risk Management and focuses on shaping underwriting strategies and ensuring profitable growth. Previously, Mike held leadership roles at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he created a global industry vertical for energy transition and also  lead and managed the global specialty business at Liberty Specialty Markets. His background also includes significant positions at AIG, where he led underwriting and risk engineering initiatives. Recognized for his integrity and collaborative approach, Mike is committed to attracting top talent, promoting a high-performance culture, and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives. He is also passionate about mentoring future leaders in underwriting and fostering continuous professional development. His insights are crucial in maintaining AXA XL's leadership in the insurance market.
 

Harmender SINGH KALIRAI - Chief Transaction Officer, Property & Casualty, SCOR (Moderator)
Harmender Singh Kalirai qualified as a solicitor in 2008 into the Corporate department at Pinsent Masons where he focused on Private Equity and M&A work, prior to moving to the Corporate department at DLA Piper. Harmender moved to the in-house legal team at SCOR in 2012, subsequently attaining the position of Deputy Chief Legal Counsel for SCOR’s P&C Business Unit and Head of Legal for London. In 2021, Harmender moved into the P&C business and is currently the Chief Transaction Officer heading up the Transactions Team, whose objective is to enhance the execution capabilities for P&C’s strategic transactions. Harmender read History at the University of Reading prior to completing his Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford.
 

Emma BARTOLO - Global Segment Leader - Environmental Impairment Liability, SCOR 
Emma joined SCOR in February 2023 as the Global Segment leader for Environmental Impairment Liability.  Emma joined SCOR from her most recent position as London Corporate Regional Manager at Chubb, where she was responsible for the delivery of the middle-market strategy and financial plan in London. Prior to this, Emma worked as an environmental underwriter for over 10 years and was responsible for the Environmental Impairment Liability portfolio at Chubb for its UKI and Syndicate business. Before joining the insurance industry, Emma worked as a Consultant at WSP Environment & Energy, and as a Technical Officer, Contaminated Land at Manchester City Council. Emma holds a Master of Science in Pollution and Environmental Control and a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geography from the University of Manchester.
 

Aurélie FALLON SAINT-LO - Head of Sustainable Underwriting, AXA

Head of Sustainable Underwriting for AXA group, Aurelie focuses on integrating sustainability and climate strategy into P&C businesses. Main aeras of focus are Mitigation, adaptation and supporting the transition strategy thanks to insurance products, services and claims management, ESG policies applicable to underwriting and Nature and biodiversity offering development. Prior to this position she has led environmental insurance business during more than 12 years. An environmental engineer by trade, she has worked with industrial groups in environmental, health and safety management, before specializing in environmental insurance and sustainability P&C insurance. 

Daniel PFEIFER - CEO, NatureRe

With over a decade of positive experience in nature restoration in Colombia Daniel founded NatureRe Capital 5 years ago.
Before he has build up and led several technology and financial services companies, has worked in asset management and banking. 
Daniel drives the NatureRe´s strategic vision and has brought together the best experts in nature restoration and sustainable finance.

Dominic TILLYARD - Financial Institutions Lead, Aon Climate

Dom Tillyard is a Director in Aon’s Climate Risk Advisory team based in London. Dom supports clients across the globe assess and manage the impacts of climate change and allocate more capital to sustainable finance, including leading Aon’s efforts on new insurance solutions for nature based and carbon credit generating projects. 
Prior to joining Aon, Dom worked for various insurance companies including Fidelis where he was Head of the Marine, Aerospace and Bespoke underwriting teams, and Swiss Re, where he focused on political risk insurance. Dom holds an honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Manchester and an Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) from the Chartered Insurance Institute.
